Broome County Recognizes Work Of Probation Officers During National Probation, Parole & Community Supervision Week

BINGHAMTON, NY - Broome County will recognize it's Department of Probation the week of July 18th-24th, during National Probation, Parole and Community Supervision Week. During this week communities across the nation honor and recognize the work that these professionals do every day of the year.

"Probation officers are often a forgotten piece of the public safety picture. These men and women quietly serve crime victims, hold offenders accountable for their actions and provide the community with an added layer of protection," said Broome County Executive Jeff Kraham. "Their work is not only supervision and surveillance but also includes education, motivation and mentoring when assisting offenders towards a law-abiding lifestyle," said Kraham.

Broome County's Probation Department oversaw 1,830 adult and juvenile cases in 2003, the department projects that this amount will total 2,055 in 2004.
