World AIDS Day: 2002 Planning Committee Forming
BINGHAMTON, NY - World AIDS Day is December 1, 2002. Each year events are held throughout the world in commemoration of World AIDS Day. The day is set aside to remember those lost to AIDS. It is also a time to renew commitment in the fight against the continuing rapid spread of the AIDS epidemic. Stigma and discrimination rank among the major obstacles to effective HIV/AIDS prevention and care. The success of a response to the AIDS epidemic depends on whether these barriers are overcome. This year, the theme for World AIDS Day is "Live and Let Live". The World AIDS Campaign 2002-2003 is focused on helping people achieve effective HIV/AIDS prevention, care and support - "Live and Let Live."
A committee is now being formed to begin the planning for a local World AIDS Day event. The first meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 24, 2002. If you would like to participate in the planning and implementation of activities for the local World AIDS Day event or would like more information on this event, please call Sandy Kosty, HIV Care Network Coordinator, at 607.778.3066.
