World AIDS Day March

BINGHAMTON, NY - A silent March of Remembrance will occur on Sunday, December 1, 2002 to remember those who have died of HIV/AIDS and to honor those infected and/or affected by HIV/AIDS. The candlelight March will begin following a short program at the Broome County Courthouse at 3 PM. The March will leave the Binghamton Courthouse, proceed up Court Street, turn right onto Front Street and end at the American Civic Association. The theme for this World AIDS Day is "Live .... And Let Live!" and refers to decreasing and eliminating stigma and discrimination associated with HIV/AIDS.

Any civic, church or other organization that wishes to show support for those infected or affected by HIV/AIDS may join in the World AIDS Day March. It is requested that organizations interested in joining the March call the committee for planning purposes - please call Beth at 607.778.2858 or Sandy at 607.778.3066. Marchers may only carry banners or posters that relate to the theme.

At 4:30 PM, a program entitled "A Celebration of Life and Message of Hope" will be held at the American Civic Association followed by a reception to recognize those youth who developed an art project for the World AIDS Day Youth Awareness Initiative.
