Broome County is taking part in a national demonstration of a new community strategic planning tool, Mobilizing for Action through Planning and Partnerships (MAPP). MAPP is a planning process developed by the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This process is now available for local health departments across the country to use in community health assessment planning.
Community involvement is an important part of an effective community planning process. MAPP encourages communities to recognize important public health issues and develop a community strategic plan to address these health issues. With the input of county residents, the solutions to health issues will be more effective and lasting.
Local organizations involved with the health department in the community health assessment process include Broome County Departments of Social Services, Mental Health and Office for Aging, Excellus Blue Cross Blue Shield Central NY Southern Tier Region, Our Lady of Lourdes Memorial Hospital, Mothers and Babies Perinatal Network of South Central NY, Rural Health Network of South Central NY, Clinical Campus at Binghamton of SUNY Upstate Medical University, United Health Services, Inc., and United Way of Broome County, Inc.
