Impaired Driving Crackdown Runs December 15th-31st

Broome County to Participate in Statewide STOP-DWI Holiday Crackdown Enforcement EffortBINGHAMTON, NY - Broome County Executive Barbara Fiala and law enforcement officials announced today that Broome County police agencies will participate in a special Holiday enforcement effort to crackdown on drunk driving.

The statewide STOP-DWI Holiday Crackdown efforts start on December 15th and will end on December 31st. This period is historically the deadliest holiday period of the year for impaired driving. New York State Police, County Sheriff and municipal law enforcement agencies across the state will be out in force in this across the board effort to reduce the number of alcohol related injuries and deaths.

“Enjoy this holiday season responsibly,” stated Executive Barbara Fiala. “Law enforcement agencies will be working diligently to keep our roadways safe during the holidays.”

The STOP-DWI Holiday Crackdown is one of many statewide enforcement initiatives promoted by the New York State STOP-DWI Association. The Statewide STOP-DWI Crackdown Campaign also targets St. Patrick's Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day Weekend each year.

“We will continue to spread the message that drinking and driving do not mix,” added STOP-DWI Coordinator Jim May. “Think before you risk lives driving under the influence.”

While STOP-DWI efforts across New York have led to significant reductions in the numbers of alcohol related fatalities, still too many lives are being lost because of crashes caused by drunk or impaired drivers. Highly visible, highly publicized efforts like the STOP-DWI Holiday Crackdown Campaign aim to further reduce the incidence of drunk driving.
